Clos Mogador owes its existence to many generations. These past generations were passionate, living the moment with sharp intuition and going through a range of experiences and emotions.

René Barbier comes from a well-known French winegrowing family and when he arrived in Priorat, the region's wines were completely unknown. He was a pioneer in producing the new Priorat reds and succeeded in his gamble to revive the unique character of this region.

In 1979, he bought a small vineyard in Gratallops; 20 hectares planted with Garnacha, Cariñena, Cabernet and Syrah. This marked the beginning of Clos Mogador, the first Vino de Finca.

Vino de Finca (comparable to single vineyard wine) is a distinguishing classification in addition to the DOQ Priorat appellation. This classification guarantees that all of the grapes used in the wine, at least during the past five years, originate only and exclusively from the Clos Mogador vineyard.

Later on René Barbier purchased the vineyards for Manyetes (Gratallops "village" wine) and Nelin (white), which total 20 hectares. In his wines, René seeks to reflect the regional classics and acknowledges a strong predilection for Garnachas.
