Marimar Torres has been a part of the wine world her whole life. Born in Barcelona in 1945, she speaks six languages and holds a degree in Higher Commercial Studies from the University of Barcelona. She went on to study marketing at ESADE and later graduated from the Stanford Business School's Executive Program. She also completed a year of Enology and Viticulture at the University of California, Davis.

At Marimar Estate, she heads the operations of the winery and the two vineyards: Don Miguel, named after her late father, in Sonoma County's Russian River/Green Valley, and Doña Margarita, a tribute to her mother, in the Sonoma Coast appellation of origin.

Before establishing the California winery, Marimar traveled tirelessly to promote Torres wines, first around Spain as the company's export manager and then throughout the United States when she moved to California in 1975.  Shipments of Torres wines to the US totaled 15,000 cases that year; ten years later, the number had risen to 150,000.  This was no small feat. Especially at the beginning, Marimar had to fight against the widespread notion that the wine world was no place for a woman.  Over time, her determination and sharp business sense defeated this bias, and she became the best-known Spanish wine representative in North America.

The winery was built in 1992 with a production capacity of 15,000 cases. It made its first Pinot Noir that same year. In addition to her commitments to the family business, Marimar has found time for other projects.  She is an expert on Spanish food. Her first book, The Spanish Table: The Cuisines and Wines of Spain, came out in 1986. Her second book, The Catalan Country Kitchen, was released in the US in 1992, and in Spain in 1995 under the title La Cocina Catalana. In her free time, she likes to cook, ski, run, ride horses, play the piano and travel with her daughter, Cristina.
